Inspired by the route next to Des Moines International Airport.
"I’ve been sewing since early childhood, and made most of my clothes in high school and as a businesswoman, starting on a treadle and moving up to a Singer with cams for different stitches. 4-H and living on a farm were big infuencers, available materials and a can-do attitude were good lessons.
I started making costumes in the 80’s—making Halloween costumes, entering costume contests, and creating belly dance wear. I worked on an AIDS quilt at that time with some friends but really got inspired but Elizabeth Akana on public television; her Hawaiian designs were so different from the quilts I had grown up with.
My first art quilt was a picture of a Japanese waterfall. After that I met a small group of non-traditional quilters who have inspired and challenged me ever since. My work has been in juried shows for many years.
When I’m not quilting I make art inspired jackets, pillows, and my own clothes. I enjoy taking classes from a wide range of instructors. I love that I now have the time to make art all the time!"
